This delightfully crisp edged, custardy French toast only needs three ingredients; melted ice cream, Brioche bread, and butter. It is utterly perfect and so easy to make!

Ice Cream French Toast
I first saw this done in a Jacques Pepin video and was intrigued immediately. Who wouldn’t be?
I’ve tweaked his method just a teeny bit for our tastes, as we prefer our French toast a bit crisper and not as well-soaked. The key here is choosing an ice cream that is custard based.

You can purchase any flavor ice cream you like at the store so long as it is a custard style that contains eggs. If you’re feeling egg-stra domestic, you can use any of these excellent homemade ice creams to make your French toast.
Irresistibly rich, Coffee Ice Cream is a dessert that captures the morning joy of a freshly brewed cup of your favorite java. Cinnamon Ice Cream is a sweet, rich, vanilla custard ice cream spiced with enough cinnamon to linger after each bite.
Creamy homemade vanilla ice cream is the ne plus ultra of ice cream and everyone loves it! Cafe con Leche Ice Cream is just sweet enough to take the bitterness out of the coffee, without so much sweetness as to be overwhelming and cancel the richness of the coffee.

French Toast with Ice Cream
This recipe makes an incredible breakfast or brunch recipe, obviously. But don’t forget it makes a fabulous dessert, too, when topped with a scoop of ice cream, some chocolate syrup, and a handful of berries.
To make this recipe, you need the following ingredients:
- Custard style ice cream
- Brioche bread
- Butter

Scoop the ice cream onto a plate and allow it to thaw at room temperature. Alternatively, you can warm it in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Stir smooth.
Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a non-stick skillet over low heat. Swirl to coat the pan. Place a slice of bread in the ice cream and turn to coat both sides. Transfer the bread to the hot skillet. Repeat with a second slice of bread.

Allow the bread to cook for about 2 minutes, then flip and cook the other side of each slice for about 2 minutes more.
Transfer the cooked French toast to a plate and repeat the cooking process with the remaining butter and bread. Serve the last slices on the plate that held the melted ice cream. Serve warm with the toppings of your choice.

Brioche French toast will remain a classic breakfast favorite likely forever, but there are endless other ways to enjoy your French toast too. This simple overnight Peaches and Cream French Toast Casserole with fresh peaches and a buttery, brown sugar and pecan topping makes everyone smile.
Tender, fluffy, lightly sweetened baked French toast, filled with blueberries and then drizzled with lemony maple syrup is always a huge hit in our house.
All the rich flavors of classic bread pudding meet French toast in this easy Pecan Praline French Toast Bake. Fully loaded with pralines and spices, there is enough sugar to make it a treat, without sending my whole family into a sugar crash mid-morning.
