Anything can happen in the unpredictable Scream franchise (both in front of and behind the camera) and the upcoming seventh installment is no exception. The cast of the sequel, out in February 2026, has been filling out in recent weeks and now it has its most curious addition yet. Scott Foley, who played Roman Bridger, aka the Ghostface killer in Scream 3, is returning to the franchise.
Deadline broke the news of Foley’s casting but did not confirm whether or not he’s playing Bridger again. Which makes sense for a few reasons. The main one is Bridger was killed in Scream 3 after revealing he was Sidney’s (Neve Campbell) half-brother and the mastermind behind the killings in the original movie. The other is, if Foley is Bridger, it’s probably a huge spoiler. This is Scream though, and to date, nothing supernatural has happened in the franchise. So while we don’t know if he’s playing Roman Bridger again, we have to imagine he is. Plus, don’t forget, Skeet Ulrich returned for both the fifth and sixth installments despite having been killed in the first film. He was seen in the mind of his daughter, Sam (Melissa Barrera, who was fired from Scream 7 after she posted about the Israel-Hamas war on her social media).
So, let’s speculate a bit. The most obvious options here are that Roman returns in a flashback, perhaps to unravel further layers to his master plan, or that he’s got an identical twin. Either would work just fine in the always-wild world of Scream. Especially since Roman was a filmmaker and could have very easily filmed some videos that Sidney and her family unearth in some way.
But what if it’s something else? Could there just randomly be a doppelganger walking around? Could Scream be making the jump into the supernatural and we see Roman as some sort of spirit? Neither sounds as satisfying in terms of narrative, but this is the seventh installment and it might be time to shake things up a bit, especially since the storyline of the previous two films is largely going away.
We don’t know how Foley will be part of the story, but we have to say it’s by far the most exciting piece of news surrounding the sequel to date. Written and directed by franchise creator Kevin Williamson, the seventh Scream brings back original franchise mainstays Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox, new regulars Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown, and plenty of newcomers such as Mckenna Grace, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, and Mark Consuelos. It’s out on February 27, 2026.
